Translate Better

Terms of engagement

Translation for convenience; the German version is binding.

Last updated: September 2026

This is how an order with me works — as short and clear as I can make it.

1. Scope

These terms apply to all translation and proofreading orders placed with Petar Angelov – Translate Better, Siebenbürgenstraße 21, 44339 Dortmund, Germany ("I", "me"), by consumers and businesses ("you"). Anything expressly agreed otherwise in the quote takes precedence. A client’s own terms and conditions only apply if I expressly agree to them.

2. Request, quote, order

  1. Your request — by form, email or phone — is non-binding and free of charge.
  2. I send you a quote by email. It states the service, language pair, price, delivery date, delivery format and, if agreed, whether the translation will be certified.
  3. The contract is concluded when you confirm my quote by email.
  4. My quote is binding on me for 14 days unless it states a different period.
  5. The language of the contract is German.

3. Prices

  1. Prices on the website are starting prices ("from") and are for guidance. The price in my quote is binding.
  2. All prices are final prices. In accordance with § 19 UStG (German VAT Act, small business rule), no VAT is charged.
  3. An express surcharge (+30%) only applies if express service is agreed in the quote. The cost of postal delivery, if you want it, is also stated in the quote.
  4. If it turns out during the work that the job is larger than assumed in the quote (for example because further pages are sent later), I will ask you first. Extra costs only arise with your agreement.

4. Delivery dates and delivery

  1. We agree the delivery date for each order individually; it is stated in the quote.
  2. Express means: I give the order priority and deliver on the next working day where possible. I state the specific date in the quote.
  3. If documents or information I need for the translation are missing or arrive late, the delivery date moves back accordingly.
  4. If a delay is foreseeable, for example due to illness, I will let you know straight away. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
  5. I deliver the translation as a PDF by email and, on request, also by post.

5. Your part

  1. Please send complete and legible documents — all pages, including reverse sides, stamps and notes.
  2. Tell me what the translation is for and which authority or body you will submit it to. Please also mention any special requirements, such as certification, an apostille or the spelling of names as in your passport.
  3. I mark unclear or illegible passages in the translation or ask you about them. Errors caused by illegible, incomplete or incorrect source documents or information are not translation errors.
  4. What I tell you about an authority’s usual requirements is based on experience and is not binding. What counts is what the authority in question requires. If in doubt, please check with them.

6. Certified translation

I only owe a certified translation if this is expressly agreed in the quote. Otherwise I deliver an ordinary, non-certified translation.

7. Confidentiality

I treat your documents and everything I learn in the course of the order as confidential. I don’t pass anything on to third parties unless you agree or I am legally required to. This continues after the order has ended. How I handle personal data is explained in the Privacy Policy.

8. Corrections and defects

  1. Please look through the translation soon after you receive it.
  2. If you report translation errors to me within 14 days of delivery, I will correct them free of charge and as quickly as possible.
  3. Your statutory rights in respect of defects remain unaffected; the 14 days are not a cut-off period.
  4. The following are not errors: stylistic preferences where the translation is correct in content, later changes to the source text, and changes caused by incorrect information from you. I’m happy to make such changes; I will tell you the cost beforehand.

9. Liability

  1. I am liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act, and to the extent of any guarantee I have given.
  2. In cases of slight negligence, I am only liable if I breach an essential contractual obligation. This is an obligation whose fulfilment makes proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose observance you may regularly rely. In that case, liability is limited to the damage that was foreseeable and typical for the contract at the time it was concluded.
  3. Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded.

10. Payment

  1. You receive an invoice after delivery.
  2. The invoice amount is payable without deduction within 14 days of receipt of the invoice, by bank transfer to the account stated on the invoice.
  3. For large orders, an advance payment may be agreed in the quote.

11. Cancelling an order that has started

You can cancel an order at any time before it is completed, preferably by email. I will then only charge a proportionate amount for the work done up to that point. Your statutory right of withdrawal as a consumer (section 12) remains unaffected.

12. Right of withdrawal for consumers

If you are a consumer (§ 13 BGB, German Civil Code) and conclude the contract exclusively by means of distance communication — for example by email or phone — you have a statutory right of withdrawal:

Withdrawal notice

Right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from this contract within fourteen days without giving any reason.

The withdrawal period is fourteen days from the day the contract is concluded.

To exercise your right of withdrawal, you must inform us (Petar Angelov – Translate Better, Siebenbürgenstraße 21, 44339 Dortmund, Germany, phone: +49 176 6921252, email: info@translatebetter.com) of your decision to withdraw from this contract by means of a clear statement (e.g. a letter sent by post or an email). You may use the attached model withdrawal form, but this is not mandatory.

To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your notice of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.

Effects of withdrawal

If you withdraw from this contract, we shall reimburse all payments received from you, including delivery costs (with the exception of the additional costs resulting from your choice of a type of delivery other than the least expensive standard delivery offered by us), without undue delay and in any event no later than fourteen days from the day on which we are informed of your decision to withdraw from this contract. We will make this reimbursement using the same means of payment you used for the original transaction, unless expressly agreed otherwise with you; in no event will you be charged any fees as a result of this reimbursement.

If you requested that the services begin during the withdrawal period, you shall pay us a reasonable amount corresponding to the proportion of the services already provided up to the time you informed us of the exercise of your right of withdrawal with respect to this contract, compared with the full scope of the services provided for in the contract.

Early expiry of the right of withdrawal

The right of withdrawal expires early once I have fully performed the service, provided that I only started performance after you expressly agreed that I should begin before the end of the withdrawal period and confirmed that you are aware that you lose your right of withdrawal once the contract has been fully performed.

In practice: if you want me to start straight away — for example because an authority’s deadline is running — please say so expressly when you accept the quote. Without that request, I can only start work after the withdrawal period has ended.

Model withdrawal form

(Complete and return this form only if you wish to withdraw from the contract.)

13. Final provisions

  1. The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies. If you are a consumer, this choice of law only applies to the extent that it does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the country in which you have your habitual residence.
  2. If you are a merchant (Kaufmann), a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the place of jurisdiction is Dortmund.
  3. These terms are also available in English and Bulgarian. The German version is binding.
