Translate Better

I’m Petar Angelov. I translate between Bulgarian, German and English, here in Dortmund-Eving. A certificate for the registry office (Standesamt), a letter from the Jobcenter, a diploma that needs recognising: send me a photo and I’ll tell you honestly what you need and what it’ll cost.

Which languages do you need?

From a birth certificate issued in Plovdiv to the registry office in Dortmund. Your document reads as if it had been written in German. Get a quote →

The difference between translated and written

Three examples of clumsy English turned into sentences an office or a client will take seriously.

Example only, not a real client document

Bulgarian → English · Civil register

„Настоящото удостоверява, че лицето е родено на посочената дата в град Пловдив.“

Word for word

“The present certifies that the person is born on the indicated date in the city of Plovdiv.”

Better

“This is to certify that the person named above was born in Plovdiv on the date stated.”

The word-for-word version keeps the Bulgarian sentence order and tense. The better one uses the wording English-language certificates actually use.

When a German office asks you for a document

Registry office (Standesamt), immigration office (Ausländerbehörde), Jobcenter, Familienkasse, driving licence office (Führerscheinstelle), recognition office (Anerkennungsstelle). Each one wants something different, and not all of them need a certified translation.

I’ll tell you whether your office is likely to want a certified translation, and whether I can provide it.

    Price upfront

You know the price before I start. No surprises at the end.

  4. 00:04
